Behind the books
A historian first
Brian Kryszewski de Ybarrondo is a Mexican-American author, historian, and award-winning screenwriter whose work bridges history, imagination, and spiritual reflection. A descendant of General Ignacio Mejía, he draws on family archives and decades of research to write the La Patria es Primero series, which reexamines Mexico's struggle for sovereignty through the eyes of those who lived it.
His novel El General: In the Shadow of Giants received the 2025 International Impact Book Award for Biographic Historical Fiction, and its television pilot adaptation won Best TV Pilot Screenplay. His short fiction appears in Texas Short Stories, Volume 10 and 250th Anniversary of American Short Stories from Texas Authors Press.
A graduate of Southwestern University in Georgetown, Texas, he began as a historian: his early research was published by the Texas State Historical Association and presented at the Institute of Texan Cultures in San Antonio. He also writes the All That Resonates and FIRE.APP series, and develops film and television through Legacy Studio Originals.
